What is Feng Shui?

What if you could bring into your home or business a power that would enhance your health, happiness, love relationships, career and money flow, along with other areas of your life? Now, what if I told you that this unlimited power is everywhere, and all you have to do is "invite" it in? You would probably expect the next line to be, "for more information on this 'new discovery', just call 1-800-GOTCHA, where our helpful operators are standing by!" (Have you ever wondered if these operators are allowed to sit?)

Actually, this is not a 'new discovery'. The Chinese have been practicing it for thousands of years. It is called Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway), which translated means "wind and water."

Many concepts that today are considered "new age", are actually concepts that are "old age" which have been rediscovered.

Feng Shui is the art and science used to invite the life force the Chinese call Ch'i (pronounced Chee) into your home or business, and cause it to circulate in every room, enhancing all of the "life areas" of your environment, thus improving your life, health and destiny.

The best explanation of Ch'i, is that it is believed to be the underlying life force of everything in the universe. This life force, when it merges into our physical world, becomes the vital, bio-electric, life-giving force of the body. The closest translation of Ch'i is "vital breath".

There are many ways to circulate Ch'i throughout your environment, depending on the layout and/or decor of your home or business.

Pictured on the front cover of my book is the eight sided Ba-Gua, a "map" to help determine where the "life areas" are in any room and/or in any structure. You can also see these "life areas" by going to the Interactive Ba-Gua section of my website. "Life areas" are the physical locations of sections of a room or structure which affect different areas of your life. The nine "life areas" are:

CAREER, KNOWLEDGE/SELF-KNOWLEDGE, FAMILY/ANCESTORS, WEALTH, FAME/REPUTATION, LOVE/RELATIONSHIPS/MARRIAGE, CHILDREN/CREATIVITY, BENEFACTORS/FRIENDS/HELPFUL PEOPLE/TRAVEL, and HEALTH.

There are three major schools of Feng Shui: Form School, Compass School, and Tibetan Buddhist Black Hat or Black Sect School. Some of the schools have a slightly different Ba-Gua that is used to determine where the different "life areas" are. I mention this because I have met many people who have bought a book based on Compass School concepts and then bought a book based on Tibetan Black Hat concepts which totally confused them as to just where the "life areas" are located. The best thing to do until you have made a thorough study of Feng Shui is to find which school feels best to you and stay with that school.

The art and science of Feng Shui can be compared with the healing science of acupuncture, and the martial art system of T'ai Chi, as all three have Taoism (pronounced dow-ism) as their philosophical basis. An acupuncturist heals you by utilizing methods to cause the Ch'i flow (vital life force) in your body to go back into balance. T'ai Chi, which translated means "supreme ultimate", utilizes movement and breathing to balance and expand Ch'i flow in your body. A Feng Shui consultant heals your environment by utilizing methods to cause the Ch'i to flow in, then balance, channel and expand it to all of the "life areas", especially any "life area" where you feel lack or limitation in your life.
